I only collect personal information that I need to run the business. Depending on how you deal with me, that can include:
I do not collect payment card details through this website, and I do not knowingly collect information from children.
Under Information Privacy Principles 1 to 4, I collect information directly from you, lawfully and fairly, and only for purposes connected with the business. Those purposes are to:
Giving me your information is voluntary, but I may not be able to help you if you choose not to provide what I need.
I do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party marketing. I use a small number of trusted service providers to run the website and business, and some of them store or process information outside New Zealand:
Where information is sent overseas (Information Privacy Principle 12), I only do so where the provider is subject to privacy safeguards that are comparable to New Zealand’s, or where you have been told about it and agreed. By using the contact form you acknowledge that your details will be handled by the providers above.
I may also disclose information where the law requires or permits it, for example to the Police or a regulator, or where I reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone’s safety.
This site uses the Google tag (Google Ads) to record when a visitor arrives from one of my ads and when they submit the contact form, so I can tell whether my advertising is worthwhile. The tag may set cookies and collect technical data such as your IP address, browser and pages viewed.
You can limit this by adjusting your browser’s cookie settings, using a tracking-protection or ad-blocking extension, or managing your preferences in your Google ad settings. The site will still work normally if you do.
I take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access (Principle 5), including using password-protected, multi-factor-secured accounts and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is completely secure, so please avoid sending passwords or highly sensitive information by email or through the contact form — I will arrange a safer way if it is needed.
I keep personal information only for as long as I need it for the purposes above or as the law requires (Principle 9). For example, tax and accounting records are generally kept for seven years. Enquiries that do not lead to any work are deleted or archived after a reasonable period.
Under Principles 6 and 7 you have the right to ask whether I hold personal information about you, to ask for a copy, and to ask me to correct it if it is wrong. Email me at hello@thetechguy.kiwi and I will respond within 20 working days. I may need to confirm your identity first. I will only decline a request where the Privacy Act allows me to, and I will tell you why.
If I experience a privacy breach that has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, I will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected as soon as practicable, as required by the Privacy Act 2020.
If you have a concern about how I have handled your information, please contact me first at hello@thetechguy.kiwi so I can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner:
The information on this website is general in nature and is provided in good faith to help you understand my services. It is not a substitute for advice or an assessment specific to your situation, systems or building. In particular, information about SS12 (Specified System 12) audio loop compliance is a general overview only and does not replace a formal inspection, IQP report or advice from your territorial authority.
I take care to keep the site accurate and up to date, but I make no promise that it is complete, current or free from errors or interruptions. This website may link to third-party sites that I do not control and am not responsible for.
To the extent permitted by law, I am not liable for loss arising from your reliance on the general information on this website. Nothing on this site limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
